Who We Are
Since 1889 New Providence is a community of believers gathered to worship God, grow in faith, and serve others in the name of Jesus Christ. Our foundation is the Bible, the inspired and authoritative Word of God, and it is a guide for our faith and practice. We believe Jesus Christ is the Son of God, the Savior of the world, and the foundation of hope. We also believe the Holy Spirit is the presence and power of God that empowers for living and equips for ministry.
Our Beliefs
Believer’s Baptism: Baptism by immersion is practiced for those who have professed their faith in Jesus Christ as Lord and Savior.
Congregational Governance: The autonomy of the local church is believed, with members having a voice in church decisions and operations.
Priesthood of Believers: Every Christian is believed to have direct access to God through Christ and is empowered to serve and minister.
Religious Liberty: The freedom of individuals to worship according to their conscience is affirmed, and the separation of church and state is supported.
Our Purpose
Worship: The church gathers to worship God through music, prayer, and the preaching of His Word.
Discipleship: Individuals are helped to grow in their relationship with Christ and mature in their faith.
Ministry and Service: The church seeks to serve one another and the community, reflecting God’s love and compassion.
Evangelism and Missions: The Gospel message is shared locally and globally, fulfilling the Great Commission.
